Afghan citizens are required to obtain a India Conference Visa before travelling to India. You must submit a formal application at the India embassy, consulate, or a designated visa application centre in your country. Apply well in advance of your planned travel date.
Afghan nationals are not eligible for India’s standard e-Visa. Since 29 April 2025 India operates a dedicated Afghan visa module (replacing the e-Emergency Ex-Miscellaneous Visa) with six categories — medical, medical attendant, business, entry, student and UN diplomatic. India had suspended Afghan visas after the August 2021 Taliban takeover; applicants apply through this module and those already in India convert at the FRRO. Conference is not one of the six module categories; Afghan applicants use the applicable category (typically business or entry). - !Document or photograph scan failures and passport-data mismatches — the e-Visa system rejects any discrepancy in name, passport number or date of birth automatically.
- !An ineligible passport — a non-ordinary travel document, or under six months’ validity or without blank pages.
- !Purpose mismatch — attending anything other than the cleared conference/seminar/workshop, or combining it with tourism or business the visa does not cover.
- !Pakistani nationality or Pakistani origin (parent, grandparent or spouse, or birth in Pakistan), an adverse security check, or an undisclosed criminal record.
- !An existing valid Indian visa for the same dates, or an adverse immigration history (overstay, deportation or blacklisting).
